Does a Wholesale Partner Get Full Control of Your Brand Registry?

Jason Carter · · 3 min read

One brand owner told us, “It’s a little weird giving one of our resellers Brand Registry access.” That reaction makes sense on the surface. Brand Registry protects your trademark, your catalog, and your listing content. Handing any of that over to an outside seller sounds like giving up control of your brand.

That’s not what actually happens, and it’s worth understanding the mechanics before you rule out a partner over it.

You stay the Administrator, always

Brand Registry splits access into two categories: protection roles and selling roles. Only an Administrator, which is you or whoever on your team you designate, can assign or remove any role. A reseller partner doesn’t get handed a master key. They get a specific, limited role called Reseller, and only if you choose to grant it.

The Reseller role is built to be narrow. It lets an authorized third party create listings and promote your product on the marketplace. It does not give them access to Brand Analytics or your other private brand data. You can revoke it at any time from the User Permissions screen in Seller Central, no different than removing an employee’s login.

Access isn’t the same as a free-for-all

Even inside that scoped Reseller role, a partner worth working with won’t just start changing your listings. At Brand Propello, nothing goes live without you seeing it first:

  • We draft the change. Updated title, bullets, images, A+ Content, whatever the listing needs.
  • We send it to you for approval. You see the exact before and after before anything touches the live listing.
  • We publish only after you sign off. We’re not able to push a change live on our end without that approval.

That’s a process we run on top of the platform’s permissions, not a substitute for them. The two layers together are what actually make it safe: Amazon limits what the Reseller role can touch, and the approval workflow limits when any of it goes live.

Questions to ask before you grant access

  • What role are you asking for, specifically? Reseller, or something broader?
  • Do changes go live automatically, or do you approve them first?
  • Can I revoke access myself, without going through you?
  • Will you show me exactly what the Reseller role can and can’t see?

Red flags

  • A partner who asks for Administrator access instead of the Reseller role.
  • A partner who publishes listing changes without showing you first.
  • A partner who can’t explain what their access does and doesn’t cover.
  • A partner who pushes back when you ask to keep the approval step.

How to structure the access

Grant the Reseller role, not Administrator. Put the approval workflow in writing before any listing changes go live. Check the User Permissions screen yourself so you know exactly what’s been granted. None of that requires trusting a partner blindly, and none of it means giving up control of your brand.
